Sarawak International Band, Orchestra and Choir Festival (SIBOCFest) 2026
The Sarawak International Band, Orchestra & Choir Festival returns for four days of world-class music-making and cross-cultural exchange, hosted by The Band Lab Kuching and Japan at the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA), UNIMAS, Kuching. Over 2–4 September, musicians train through sectionals, instrument lessons, and massed "tutti" rehearsals led by an outstanding faculty — including Japanese Guest Conductor Ken-ichi Watanabe, visiting Japanese university players, and professional tutors from Singapore, the Netherlands, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Everything builds toward the Finale Gala Concert on September 5 at the Experimental Theatre, FACA, where participants premiere a brand-new medley of Sarawakian folk songs arranged by local composer Yeo Chow Shern, alongside works spanning film, musical theatre, and Malaysian classics. Between rehearsals, the Community Kamek sessions, and off-stage activities, let you dive into Sarawak's cultural heritage and build a genuine global network of musical friends. Borneo Handtapping Tattoo Weekend is a small traditional tattoo event of selected artists from the region who work consistently and are focusing on handworking tattoo techniques especially handtapping with variety styles of traditional tribal tattoo, neo-tribal tattoo and traditional tattoo revival. Borneo Handtapping Tattoo Weekend accommodates the selected participant tattoo artists and traditional tattoo enthusiasts to interact and be productive collectively in an open natural environment and creative atmosphere. There are also selected performing artists who will be involved at the event.

Wanna meet fellow writers and body-double as we work on our respective WIPs? Table of Contents is an in-person writing session held every second Saturday of the month. Bring your weapon of choice - laptop/notebook/tablet. Don't forget appropriate protection gear (if needed) - earphones/headphones/earplugs. Work on whatever writing or writing-related task that you like - an article, a blog/journal entry, a novel, a poem. Edit, outline, or plot. We work in two or three 45 minute writing sprints with breaks in-between. Tell us what your goal is when you check in. Report back when we officially end. The highlights of this day will be the sharing sessions by readers of different genres (classic, children, YA, graphic novel, creative non-fiction etc) who will talk about their favourite books and why you should get them into your to-read list!
